Yesterday, we had a great CTO Roundtable Berlin with over 35 participants at the Bonial Germany office!

Technical Debt — When to Tolerate, When to Tackle?

The panel shared diverse views on what technical debt really is, and how to build a company culture that not only understands it — but also empowers non-tech folks to make informed decisions on when and how to address it.

I brought up a strong thesis: you need a healthy mix of Senior and Junior engineers — not just to avoid technical debt, but to keep ideas fresh and challenge the status quo with new tools and perspectives.

One addition for my side: a Senior engineer is not about age or career path — it’s all about mindset, skills, openness to innovation, and the ability to drive discussion proactively.

At TechMiners, we document all architecture decisions and tools on evaluation pages, so our rationale is always transparent. One big takeaway for me: Architecture Decision Records (ADR) are the natural next step for us as our Product & Development team scales — especially to bring more clarity into the lifecycle of our decisions.
